Winter wedding at Dewsall Court
Katherine and Marcus’s winter wedding
Dewsall Court in Herefordshire. One of my favourite venues. It’s like getting married in your own impressive country home (if you had a few bob). Far more atmosphere than most hotels (certainly any golf club). I’ve shot there in the summer. But in winter light, a test…
Katherine and Marcus had come from their home in London, for their wedding day at Dewsall. Not that far but it can still take four hours on UK roads. Dewsall Court sits just south of Hereford. It’s a unique canvas upon which to create your own wedding weekend, with family and friends. It’s worth the hours sat in traffic. Views of the Welsh hills, lush countryside, rainbows, sunshine and showers.
Reportage wedding photography at Dewsall
Coverage starts with Katherine surrounded by her large ‘team’ of bridesmaids – as hair and makeup took place in the bridal suite. Downstairs, in the study, Marcus took part in the tradition of some whisky with the rabbi. This may be the first instance of such a tradition. Plus, there was no real rabbi. Outside the weather was getting changeable and windier, as the wedding gusests were greeted with mulled wine and made their way across to the Wainhouse.
After the legal ceremony, a short nod to Katherine’s jewish heritage, a friend officiating. Marcus smashed the glass. Confetti outside in the bitter wind – a few quick portraits before the light disappeared. Then drinks in the house. Food and speeches back in the Wainhouse. A firepit and marshmallows for those brave enough and then dancing…
