My informal, natural, documentary wedding photography aims to create a ‘storyboard’ of timeless images of your wedding day, highlighting both the moments you remember and the moments you missed. I don’t aim to ‘create’  your wedding day into a faux fashion shoot. No elaborate poses you are not comfortable with or heavily processed images in Photoshop.  Good photography is about storytelling – it’s as simple as that. It is about the day in a series of memorable pictures. It is about the people, the characters, the incidents, the events, the emotions, the warmth, the details – above all, the essence and the spirit of the day. Photography to raise a smile, even a tear, not just after the honeymoon but in years to come when you look back at your album. That is when your wedding images and album become really important. When all the details and stresses of the wedding day have faded and what is left? Your photographs. Hire the right photographer and those memories have been preserved for you to share with future generations. Best thing people have said about my wedding photography? “Timeless”.

I have covered a variety of ceremonies – civil, Church of England, Catholic, Humanist, Jewish, Hindu and even Zoroastrian. Being based in West Sussex, the majority of weddings have been in the South of England and London. However, past venues have been as far afield as Mallorca, the Cote d’Azur and Portugal. In the UK, locations have included The Lake District, West Wales, Devon and North Yorkshire – I always relish the chance to shoot at a new and interesting venue.

I cut my teeth in photography as a newspaper photojournalist at The Times in London, weeks after completing a Postgraduate diploma in Photojournalism. It was a job that found me thrown into the deep end shooting images both in the UK and around the world. From portraits of politicians, actors and celebrities, to the drama of hard news stories or to quiet, observed reportage – all working to the pressure of tight deadlines. I once went from shooting behind the scenes at a Royal Ballet performance to the aftermath of a bombing. From having a gun held to my head in a dark dockyard to days documenting paeolithic engravings in a remote canyon – it was certainly very diverse! It gave me a broad photographic experience that I can now bring to my wedding photography – an authentic editorial knowledge that I bring to ‘wedding photojournalism’.

I still regularly shoot for both editorial and corporate clients. Examples of this work can be found at my other website,  www.martinbeddall.com My work has appeared in titles such as The Independent and Independent on Sunday, The Guardian, The Daily & Sunday Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Wall Street Journal, American Lawyer magzine, Institutional Investor magazine, Barron’s magazine and Time magazine amongst others.

I am a member of The International Society of Wedding Photographers, The Wedding Photojournalist AssociationThe Association of Photographers and The British Press Photographers Association
